Return of the Braves Catchers

Ok this trade needs some group analysis. My first reaction was "another Braves catcher"(although he did not come directly from the Braves)? They do always give us one okay year before they are too old and slow to contribute. If Milwaukee is so desperate to get the Braves back or at least an ex-Brave catcher once they reach 30, why not make Javy Lopez a back-up (not sure if he is even playing anymore)? My real hope out of this trade is a cheezy CHiPs cut scene with Johnny and Capuano either on the big screen or before a game on FSN. I took a quick look at the pitchers we obtained as I have never heard of them, and based on stats alone, they seem like quintessential Brewers pitchers: mediocre.

It kind of sucks to see Krynzel go as I feel like he never got a real shot to show us what he has, but I guess since we have the Ranger version of Dave Krynzel in Lance Nix, there was no overall change from the beginning of last season. A starter needed to leave so I guess it was Double-D's time. Granted he was never outstanding, he was solid so I am kind of sad to see him go. I am neither for nor against Dana, and will side with the Brewers trading him based on the fact his first name has one too many "a's" and his last name is missing a "Cl".

Thoughts?

I have to say an overall interesting take on this trade. A direction completely different than 99% of Brewer fans. So I applaud your originality.

To be honest the trade was perfect for both teams. We have gotten more than anyone would have wished for with Doug Davis, received a very capable pitcher in return that is years younger. We were able to take a good hitting catcher off the hands for merely nothing in Eveland and Krenzel who were wasting good years being linked to the Brewers roster. Estrada and Miller are a great one two punch when it comes to catchers. A team usually has two poor catchers, or one great one. We have two talented, and expereinced catchers now.

We moved a position of strength for a position of strength on the Diamondbacks. In most cases many would say the Brewers stole again from the D-backs, but I would rather just put this one at 50/50 and watch this upcoming year to see if this was another Richie Sexson type steal.

Why I like the trade:
2 reasons. A good catcher that has a few years left until prospects like Lou Palmisano or Angel Salome start moving up the latter.
And 2, Good to move Krenzel, the dude kept an injury from the medical staff to start spring training. You can't keep that stuff hidden. We needed to move him as we have too many decent outfielders already.

Moving Dana for the reliever is a sideways move. Dana has no chance at being a starter with the Brewers. Here is the list of pitchers ahead of Dana, coming from the Minors that will be starters before him. Villaneva, Parra, Jackson, Gallardo, Inman, Whapepah, and Jerremy Jeffers. Each one of these pitchers has 2 things going for them. They are mostly younger than Dana, and none of them look like a young David Wells.

Cheek, sorry I was not clear on my position on the trade as I was focusing on presenting it to the group to begin the discussion, with the goal of putting an image of Johnny Estrada, hopefully nicknamed Ponch, on a motorcycle with Chris Capuano by his side. Let me clarify. I am for the trade and think its funny we keep getting former Braves catchers. I probably am different than 99 percent of Brewer fans since I wish Dana Eveland's name was Dan Cleveland and want to see a CHiPs cut scence on the big screen, but I can accept that. I thought all the guys we traded needed to go and am neither for nor against any of the non-Estrada players we picked up.

Krenzel had chances, he got beat out by Gwynn in the minors, he's gotten worse in each of his 3 seasons in AAA.
