Eff the Big Ten

Hey

My new way to deal with Big Ten Network is this:

Everytime the UW Foundation calls me asking for a handout to "save the University from financial peril", I say "Eff Off, go get my contribution from your Big Ten Network".

Anyone who tries to rationalize that this is really the cable company's fault is kidding themselves. The Big Ten wants to eat into the profits that the networks (ABC, ESPN) were making off them, but they need to be in the same package tier of at least ESPN to get enough cash from their advertisers. This is just greed, and nothing more. The Big Ten wants more money, and the Networks have leverage with the Cable Companies and thus are really the ones pressing the cable companies not to give the Big Ten or the NFL Network any sort of preference in attempt to kill the channel before it gets off the ground. If UW really cared about the fans, they would have found a way to show the games, not just write letters to the papers blaming Charter and Time Warner (thanks Barry, you are a real D-bag).

I would rather not watch the game than watch the Big Ten Network.

2007 Big Ten Payback Tournament

The pairings were recently announced for the 2007 Big Ten Tournament and for the Wisconsin Badgers to win this year’s tournament; they will most likely have to play all three teams that defeated them on the road during the Big Ten regular season. In order to win the Big Ten Tournament, I believe Wisconsin (2-seed) will have to beat Michigan State (7-seed) on March 9th, Indiana (3-seed) on March 10th and Ohio State (1-seed) on March 11th. Winning the tournament would really solidify the potential for Wisconsin to be a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but a lot could happen between now and then. Regardless of how the Badgers do in these two tournaments, it was awesome to see them play that well during the regular season and win a record 27 games. Go BADGERS!

This is obviously an unprecedented run in Badger hoop history. I think it's a fun list.

So who is your #2 favorite Badger

Butch has had some big games, but also seems to disappear in big games.

Taylor is the easy choice since he is consistent and more importantly, he looks like Chris Rock.

Landry is a force off the bench and is from Milwaukee, but gets my honorable mention for his intangibles.

But I have to go with Flowers. His hustle, defense, ability to drive to the hoop and to make the big play earns him my award for second favorite player on the team.

So who are we supposed to believe?

So the Badgers (football) are #7 in the AP and #5 in the USA Today. I am confused. I always joke about the fact that the USA today is just a headline paper with no substance, but I assumed it was still part of the AP? They have their own poll? Oh wait, the USA Today is also the "Coaches poll", but which team do they coach? So who are we supposed to believe, the coaches or the press? Even though Nick Saban proved coaches cannot be trusted, I am going to have to side with them over the AP. I mean, isn't their whole goal simply to give as many terrorists as they can the top secret information that is posted on the internet and in public libraries? Also, Boise is not even a state, don't they receive some kind of demerit for that?

But then I get to the basketball rankings, and those Badgers are #3 in the AP and #4 in the USA Today/Coaches poll. What gives? The AP let me down above, and then pulled through here?

Solution, Pelsi

I wrote that solution up a little quick in the comments. I have LSU in two places.USC has to be in there somewhere.

At larges, by rule would still have to be Michigan, LSU, Boise. (2 of these)

• One rule says top 4 are automatically in.
• One rule says top 12 from mid-major have to be in.
• Of course both rules refer to a situtation with 10 slots, and my solution only has 8 slots.

I'd say a 4-team playoff would look like...

• OSU v. LSU
• Florida v. Michigan
• Louisville gets screwed

8 team playoff would look like

• OSU v. Wake Forest (1 vs lowest)
• USC/LSU v. Louisville (4 vs. 5)
• Florida v. Okla/Boise St. (2 vs next lowest, my TV screen would blow up with the colors if it was UF v. BSU)
• Michigan v. USC/Oklahoma (3 vs 3rd lowest eligible)
• Either LSU or Boise St gets screwed, so does Wisconsin.

16 team playoff, all conference champs get in, 5 at-larges

• 1.OSU v. Middle Tennessee St.
• 8.Wisconsin v. Notre Dame (wisconsin bumped to avoid rematches in first 2 rounds)
• 4.LSU v. BYU
• 5.Louisville v. Wake Forest
• 3.Michigan v. Houston
• 6.USC v. Auburn (auburn bumped to avoid rematch w/LSU)
• 7.Oklahoma v. Boise St.
• 2.Florida v. Central Michigan
• Arkansas, West Viriginia, Texas all get screwed among others.

I agree that this last format would "ruin" bowls but who cares at this point

I think the Badgers got worse case scenario out of this mess, but they can still make the best of it. Ideally, we would have got to play a team better than Arkansas, and been the underdogs. If they beat the hogs, they were supposed to. I was hoping for LSU or Florida (obviously before Florida clinched BCS)

Best case scenario. OSU beats Gators, Michigan beats USC, Wisconsin wins.
Except, I don't think the pollsters will put Wisconsin above the LSU/ND winner no matter what, which is crap. I also don't see Louisville losing and/or dropping below Wisconsin. I am worried Oklahoma could pass us too, we'll see.

Top 5 finish is still outstanding, unfortunately if they lose, they'll probably be seen as paper lions and fall pretty significantly. Again, that's why I'd prefer to be the underdog in almost situations going into a bowl game.

According to DeKalb Police:Ikegwuonu, 20, was arrested with his brother, Bill Ikegwuonu, a reserve strong safety at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.The brothers apparently broke into an apartment and tried to steal an Xbox player. Bill Ikegwuonu was caught by police and arrested. Jack Ikegwuonu eventually surrendered to police.Residential burglary is the more serious charge and a Class 1 felony in Illinois. If convicted of that charge, the brothers face a minimum of four years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000.

Good times last night for the thanksgiving dinner.

USC will beat ND
Ark will either lose to LSU or Florida
Florida will either lose to Arkansas or will lose bowl game. (sugar, possibly Rose)
WVA will get crushed in bowl game (orange)

OSU will beat USC (they are gonna pass Mich in BCS next week)
Michigan will win Rose Bowl
Wisconsin will win Citrus. (LSU, Florida or Arkansas)
