Becks In US

As someone who actually likes football (translation soccer), I have to say that other seeing Posh Spice more, I am still disappointed that David Beckham now plays for the LA Galaxy. I guess that him coming to America is supposed to draw interest in soccer in the US, but I think all its really done is get the MLS some world wide attention that will be short lived. Granted one million people watched the Galaxy/Chelsea match the other weekend, but I'm pretty confident that that will be the highest rated Beckham/LA game.

Here is my list of complaints:

1. I hate pulling for anything LA, especially a franchise named after space.
2. MLS soccer is sloppy and boring to watch. I will now have to sit through a few more of these.
3. Beckham probably lost more international respect than the MLS gained. This hurts his chances of playing in Euro '08 for England (man, he had just gotten back on the team).
4. Becks plays midfield, so other than scoring on free kicks, he does not score much. In US sports, this translates into "he is not that good" so people will soon turn on him.
5. Although I do think Victoria Beckham is hot, the last thing this world needs is another reality tv show.

Contact Established

At the cost of hearing every bobblehead story, ever, trades were discussed tonight with the Bobblehead guy. Since Vargas was pitching, I think all the stories only took one inning. I told him the two we need, and he said trading a Moore for a Thomas would be a piece of cake for you. He said if I get a blue in any of the remaining games, he will trade me a white and a Caldwell since he gets numerous per game and does not want me to miss just one. He actually seemed genuinely concerned that we were both short just one.

His advice was for me to get a Uecker ticket this Friday to get an extra Thomas to trade you for your Moore. He went into detail on where I need to go and what time, and included numerous standing in line stories. But I really don't want to become a bobblehead guy, so I may not.

Other notes:

3-1 in July so far to take the total season to 12-7. Trivia. Of the losses I have seen, how many of them were attended by Tim?

Who hates Milwaukee/Wisconsin more: Gary Sheffield (this goes way back), Javon Walker or Ji Hawwwwww?

Arena Football in Milwaukee

Arena football is returning to Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Bonecrushers, a new entry in the Continental Indoor Football League, will play a brand of indoor football beginning in the spring of 2008 at the U.S. Cellular Arena.

Cheek, it looks like you will have a reason to become another type of season ticketholder and hopefully the "Nut" will return with this new arena football team for hours of in-game entertainment at the same level as Mike McCarter (a.k.a, Freeway) with Marquette Golden Eagles and Milwaukee Bucks games.

No Maas

PEORIA, Ill. -- Broadcaster Bill Maas, a former All-Pro lineman, was released from jail Sunday after his arrest on drug possession and weapons charges during a roadside check.

Maas and passenger Sarah Murphy were released Sunday and ordered to return to court Aug. 21, jail officials said.

The two were arrested Friday night after authorities stopped Maas' sport utility vehicle along Illinois Route 116. They asked to search the vehicle after Maas appeared nervous, officials said. The search uncovered a .22-caliber revolver, 5 grams of suspected marijuana, 6 grams of suspected cocaine and 28 pills of Ecstasy, police said.

The 45-year-old Maas was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon. Murphy was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, jail officials said.

Maas was drafted out of Pittsburgh by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984 and became a two-time All-Pro. The defensive tackle played with the Chiefs until 1992 and with Green Bay the following year. He joined Fox Sports in 1996 and worked for the network as a reporter, anchor and analyst through last season.

Fox's Dan Bell told USA Today that Maas "wasn't expected" to work for the network this season and "will not be coming back to Fox in any capacity" after his arrest.

Maas and Murphy, 27, live in Lee's Summit, Mo. Maas' telephone listing was not published and no telephone information could be found in Lee's Summit for Murphy. It was unclear if the two had retained a lawyer.

I really am happy this guy off of Fox Sports broadcasts and especially with Packer game broadcasts. I really could not stand listening to his rants that did not make much sense.
